Popeye’s Favorite Smoothie

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

My children recently watched some old Popeye cartoons. After watching they were interested in eating spinach. Of course they didn’t remember that they weren’t fond of spinach when I put it in their salads. They have never had cooked cause that’s just nasty. So what was I to do? Put it in a smoothie of course! They love this smoothie and ask for it often…

Popeye

2 C spinach leaves

1 stalk celery

1 ripe banana

1 C frozen strawberries

1 C frozen pineapple

16 ounces of water

Combine all ingredients and mix until smooth. Enjoy!

  2. One good thing about smoothies is you can put just about any non-liked food ingredient in it and get away with it. The kids and adults who need a healthier treat without thinking healthier benefit the most.

Kids shy away and innately hate peas, carrots, spinach etc. but when you use them as ingredients in a smoothie with a recipe like this you kill two birds with one stone.

Satisfy the sweet and fun tooth and take care of nutritional needs.

It helps in the fight for weight loss also which is a self esteem saver.

  6. I don’t think Im seeing all of this recipe, all I can see is the pineapple and water. I’m assuming there’s spinach involved too! Anything else I’m missing?

  7. I cannot see the ingredients either.

  8. I’ll see if this one goes over with my son. The only thing different in this one than what I tried before is the pineapple but maybe that is all it’ll take for my boys to like it.

  9. Just tried this … because my banana wasn’t very ripe yet, I replaced some of the water with apple juice to sweeten it up.

It was delicious. Even hubby enjoyed it – and he’s not usually a big smoothie fan and hates spinach.
